Hi! My name is Philip & Welcome to Horse Race Trading.
This site and YouTube channel is dedicated to helping beginner traders become profitable using betting exchanges like Betfair, Matchbook and BetDaq.
There are so many obstacles and issues to overcome to become a full time trader.
This makes it incredible hard to keep your bank balance in check, let alone your emotions.
I aim to provide guides, strategies and more to help you overcome costly mistakes and hopefully turn you into a full time horse race trader.
I have over 10 years experince trading on the pre-race & in-play horse markets on Betfair, recording 1000s of tutorials in the process.
This is my story...

The Beginning: Matched Betting
I stumbled upon the world of matched betting quite by accident around 2012. One day, I was scrolling through social media when an ad popped up, promising risk-free profits through matched betting. Intrigued and a bit skeptical, I decided to give it a try.
After all, who doesn't like the idea of making some extra cash?
I spent the next few weeks learning the ropes, from people like Mike Cruickshank, understanding the intricacies of bookmakers, free bets, and betting exchanges.
The thrill of placing bets and winning without any risk was exhilarating. However, as time passed, I realized that matched betting had its limitations.
The profits were good but not great, and the opportunities were becoming scarce as bookmakers started to limit my accounts.
The Transition: A New Opportunity
That's when I discovered Betfair's horse racing markets. I was fascinated by the liquidity and the opportunities it presented.
Unlike matched betting, where I was mostly relying on bonuses and free bets, trading on Betfair offered a more sustainable and scalable way to generate income.
I immersed myself in learning trading strategies, understanding market trends, and mastering the art of timing. It was a steep learning curve, filled with ups and downs, but the potential for consistent profits kept me going.
I also paid for a one-day 1-1 session with one of Peter Webb's coaches down at BetAngel headquarters back in 2016/17. I spent the day in their office learning about why and how the markets move and how to make consitent profit.
The Present: Trading on Betfair Horse Markets
Today, I am a part-time trader on Betfair's horse markets. I've developed my own set of strategies that allow me to make consistent profits, regardless of the outcome of the race.
The journey hasn't been easy, but it has been incredibly rewarding.
Through this blog, I aim to share my experiences, tips, and strategies with you. Whether you're a seasoned trader or a complete beginner, there's something here for everyone.
So, come along and join me on this exciting journey. Let's beat the markets together!
One of the hardest parts of becoming a full time horse race trader is understanding the subtle nuances and market movements.
Price points shift so fast and there are an incredible amount of indicators you have to understand to return consistent profitable trades.

why is trading the pre race horse markets so hard and how can I help?
Trading pre-race horse markets can be challenging for a number of reasons:
Price Fluctuations: The odds for horses can change significantly in the period leading up to a race. This volatility is due to a variety of factors such as changes in track conditions, betting volume, and public sentiment. Predicting these fluctuations accurately requires deep knowledge and understanding of both the specific horses and broader market trends.
Lack of Information: Unlike other forms of trading, where extensive information and data might be available to aid decision-making, horse racing is completely unpredictable because every race is a unique event.
Timing: The market only exists for a limited amount of time before each race, typically just 10 minutes. This short window means that traders must make decisions quickly and may not have much time to react to new information or changes in the market.
Emotional Factors: Betting markets are influenced not only by hard facts and data but also by the emotions and biases of the bettors. These psychological factors can lead the market to behave in unpredictable ways that are difficult to model or anticipate. I wrote post to help you overcome the most common trading mistakes.
Success often requires a combination of deep knowledge about horse racing, a good understanding of the dynamics of betting markets, quick decision-making abilities, and careful management of risk.
How I Can Help You Become A Better Trader
Visual Learning: A significant number of individuals lean towards visual learning, which means they understand and retain information more effectively when it's showcased visually. Video tutorials can simplify complicated concepts, transforming them into easily understandable visuals and demonstrating the mechanics of trading in real-time. It is much easier to show the Betfairprice graph and how that relates to a sudden spike in odds because you can see the graphs compared.
Real-life Examples: Reading about a strategy is informative, but witnessing it in action offers unparalleled clarity. Through video tutorials, traders can observe strategies being applied during actual races, offering them tangible context and enhanced comprehension, particularly with ladder price movements and horse behaviour.
Step-by-step Guidance: Detailed guides offer invaluable step-by-step insights into various trading techniques. Instead of navigating through potentially overwhelming technical jargon, newcomers are provided with clear, actionable, and direct advice.
Expert Insight: The insights offered are not just generic tips but are carefully curated by seasoned professionals with years of experience in horse trading. Leveraging their expertise helps beginners sidestep common missteps and adopt industry-best practices from the outset.
Convenience and Pace: One undeniable advantage of online tutorials and guides is the opportunity to learn at a pace that suits the individual. Concepts that may not be clear during the first encounter can be revisited, paused, replayed, or studied in-depth, providing flexibility that's invaluable for those who might be balancing trading with other responsibilities.
Building Confidence: Gaining a new skill often goes hand-in-hand with building confidence. By utilising tried and tested methods and strategies presented in these materials, beginners can foster a sense of confidence, secure in the knowledge that they are treading a well-trodden and successful path.
